In a "nut shell":

It was truly an exciting day of Golf at the Muirfield Memorial Tournament!

From early on, the "expected" outcome would be that Colin Muirkawa would win the tournament; at least that is what the "drift" was between the official sports cast commentators and other officials at the Golf Course.

Fortunately that was not what transpired in the end result, as Patrick Cantlay showed definite signs of catching up with Colin Muirkawa!

Cantlay made a couple of what seemed to be poor choices, which gave additional "fuel" to some commentators that Morikawa would win!

However, as this Forum Administrator watched the game with increasing interest as Cantlay "inched up" on Morikawa, the feeling that began to swell deep within my gut was that Cantlay could indeed win this tournament; and a little later into the tournament, I found myself rooting for Cantlay more and more enthusiastically! 8o

NOTE: There was also at least one spectator fan - somewhere on the golf course - who was shouting praise and cheer for Cantlay; his voice raising above that of all other fans! :P Who was this guy? Does anyone reading this know who that guy is?

This Forum Admin would love to thank him in person or on this forum for his support of Camtlay!

When it came down to the fact that there would be a tie-breaker Play Off between Cantlay and Morikawa, I stayed "glued" to my TV Set as never before in any golf tournament! And that spectator mentioned above? He also came more and more supportive of Patrick Cantlay!

Finally the truth was about to be revealed: would Cantlay win?

I cannot begin to describe how I felt when Patrick Cantlay was finally in that play off, and just seconds from winning or losing!

My hopes, wishes, and yes, "mentally projected thoughts" for Cantlay came ever so much more forceful; there it finally was: Cantlay won!

ADDITIONAL STATS AND INFO:

***This tournament was played on a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus

***Jack and Patrick have been friends for more than 10 years

***At the 17th Hole, Colin Morikawa said something to Patrick Cantlay as they were walking to the 18th Hole.

Whatever was said by Morikawa apparently "struck" Cantlay as being either derogatory, or at the very least, distasteful.

One would have to be either half asleep or in denial of what transpired, but that facial expression of Patrick Cantlay was obviously

one of shock or annoyance with Colin Morikawa.

No comment regarding this incident was made by anyone of the sports announcers team or any other member of the golf club as it happened.

We will probably never know what Colin Morikawa said to Patrick Cantlay; perhaps it is best NOT to know!

A MOST DESERVING CLIMAX:

This was one of the most exciting golf tournaments ever broadcast on CBS.

Patrick Cantlay deserved to win - no doubt about it! The "gods" were shinning on him today!

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

For those of you reading this who believe there is a "higher power" which sometimes manifests itself through action or visual occurrence it is highly noteworthy to mention that just before Cantlay and Morikawa finished the tournament, there was a heavy rain which caused an 8 minute delay in the tournament. At the end of that "rain delay", the clouds above them opened up and a bright ray of sunshine (which appeared through the remaining clouds and rain mist), beamed down on the Green were Cantlay and Morikawa stood; and in the sky above the golf course, to the right of this opening in the clouds, was the Good Year Blimp (said to be about 2000 feet from the two players).

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT!

But of course no comment came from any of the sportscasters or other tournament officials ....

but I instinctively knew it was a positive "sign" for Cantlay! ;)
